Lois: Detroit’s Woman of Steel is a story-driven character documentary about Detroit-based sculptor Lois Teicher.

The film chronicles Lois’s life story to highlight her accomplishments, reveal her influences, and explore the broader landscape of Detroit’s contemporary art scene from the 80s up to the present.

Lois Teicher, who didn’t fit the mode she came out of, emerges as her own force, bringing deeper sensitivities and heightened awareness to Detroit’s art community.

Establishing Timeline: 

1. The Late 60s – Detroit Riots/Unrest

2. The 1970s  – Counterculture/John Sinclair/MC5/White Panther Party/Anti-Suburban Conformity

3. Cass Corridor Art Movement

4. Center for Creative Studies and Women’s Rights movement ignites Lois Teicher’s career as a sculptor in Detroit during the late 70s/80s.

5. The Late 1980s – Lois Teicher, who didn’t fit the mode she came out of, emerges as her force, bringing more profound sensitivities and heightened awareness to Detroit’s art community.
